Provenance

20-Star American Flag, US Naval Ensign, c.1818

Last flown in 1838 aboard the side-wheel paddle steamer Harkaway on the Tennessee River helmed by Captain George Nicholas of Louisville, Kentucky
Captain Nicholas was conferred this flag upon be transferred away from the Harkaway to a new ship.  The Captain's son, John Thomas Nicholas, would be born in the 1850's and follow in his father's footsteps to take on the river.
Upon George Nicholson's passing in the late 19th century, his son would inherit that flag from his father's estate. Snce that time the flag has been passed along to successive generations until this year, August 2023, when Captain Nicholson's Great Great Grandson would pay us a visit.
Long enough removed from time and place, Curtiss Beltcher, Jr wished to pass the flag on to a collector who would surely appreciate it's interint value as a timeless piece of America's indelible mark on industry, built upon the ingenuity and fervor of the pioneers of our past who laid the ground work for our experimental republic.
