Photo sessions with the flag
Below this first set of images extracted from our documentation booklet are close up photography of the Nicholson 20 Star American Flag, section by section and front and reverse side elements, as well as a selection of the flag as it was unfolded under studio lighting. These close ups are meant to bring out the fine detail, age and wind-whipped threading of this flag's life on the river.
To make the photography work, we had to very gently clip the flag to a backdrop upside down due to the delicate state of the fabric across the top edge and corners of the flag. We then flipped the photos to the correct orientation. This is the reason you will see black clips at the bottom of the particular photos that show the flag's bottom edge.
